Permission to be yourself

Have you ever met people who don’t like or want to show their true selves? And I get it, being truly seen can feel exposing, vulnerable, uncomfortable.

But for someone who is sensitive, interacting with people who are like this, feels uncomfortable too. The performance of the fakeness that we have to keep up with is draining.

It’s not that I want the whole world to be authentic. I’m still uncovering myself too, so I know it takes time and patience. And I understand that everyone is at a different place on their journey.

But I strongly believe the people who want to be authentic deserve to have a space to be themselves or to explore what that self looks like, without being mocked, judged or put down for being different from the “norm”. A norm that is afraid of true individuality and demonises it.

Do you think that you have to change the world, and force it to create that space for you or allow you to show up?

Or is there, even a small part of you, who sometimes whispers that you don’t need permission to be yourself. That you don’t need to apologise for taking space, for existing. That your “uncomfortableness” around incongruence is important; it matters too.

You were built like this for a reason. And what that reason is, only you can find out if you are willing to.

The more you acknowledge and listen to the faint voice of that part of you, the closer you can get to that reason. Because that part of you knows the truth that the rest of you forgot.

So, how will you choose to see the world and yourself?
